Berberine is an alkaloid found in barberry, goldenseal and several other plants. It is one of the more heavily studied botanicals for metabolic support — blood sugar, cholesterol and weight management are the three areas with the most research behind them.

How to take it

Berberine is slow. Most research runs over 8–12 weeks, which is a fair window to judge it over. Digestive upset in the first week or two is common and usually settles — taking it with a proper meal rather than a snack helps most.
